Payroll Tax Holiday- The Secret Tax on Social Security

Image via Wikipedia

What you aren’t being informed about the payroll tax holiday (temporary) President Obama signed into law last December (2010) is how it raids the trust fund of Social Security.  Social Security is the corner-stone of Democratic politics.  The proverbial third rail that no one dare touch.

The law reduced workers‘ Social Security taxes by 2%. Workers normally pay 6.2% on earnings, the new legislation made it 4.2%.  At the time the White House used an example of a single mother of two with $16,900 in earnings. She saved $28 a month under the Tax Holiday or $338 per year.  Now the White House uses the hypothetical employee earning $50,000 a year to scare the public into thinking the average taxpayer will pay $1000 a year more in taxes.  Deceptive?

Here is the true deception; according to Senator Jerry Moran (KS) who sits on the Senate Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs Committee, that 2% in savings is actually hurting the Social Security Trust Fund by reducing the payments into it by $120 billion dollars (White House numbers).  So can they have it both ways?

Funding Social Security now to make sure its there in the future when lower-income workers may really need it or rob Social Security now to pay all workers now for votes in the next election. Isn’t vote-buying illegal?

No compromise, no tax holiday. Where is real tax and entitlement reform and where are the adults we elected to do the right thing, make the tough decisions to get the country back on track?  Ask your local news media why they haven’t covered the secret about the Tax Holiday that President Obama is so adamant about getting passed now.

Bailing Out the Public Unions – Pelosi to Give $26B State Aid Package

In Bailouts, Banking, Legislation, Political Commentary, Politics, Uncategorized, Unions on August 9, 2010 at 7:10 pm

Pelosi is trying to buy the votes of the Teachers Union by giving them a $26B aid package and she even had the gall to tweet about saving teachers jobs! The States have threatened to lay off teachers and the Dems have responded with handouts. No offense teachers but get a life and quit being beggars and wards of the State! I am a union member, not a public employee union, but a real union that goes out and works hard every day and if we don’t produce we get fired, when the jobs aren’t there, we get laid off.

My union might revoke my card, but enough is enough.

State governments are failing everyone. Let’s start with laying off the real culprits, the bureaucrats, instituting pay cuts of all elected officials, reducing the size of government payrolls with either pay cuts or layoffs. Start with every department and cut back by the same percentage as unemployment is in that State and add another 5% to the cut.

I am not for laying off teachers, but they aren’t any more privileged than I am. I spent years risking my life every day to make sure hard working Americans had electrical power. 3:00 am in the middle of January, 10 below in ice storms, we climbed poles, dug through frozen ground, got the power on! In normal days we built the electric infrastructure for Hospitals, housing developments, highways, government offices, television and radio stations, cell towers, but those days are gone. Fanny and Freddie fixed that, but Wall Street got the blame. No more loans, no more building permits, no more jobs.

Result? Massive layoffs of union workers. But wait, aren’t the unions all getting bailed out? We didn’t. And hundreds and now thousands of private sector union members are sitting idle. Hey Pelosi! You have lost my vote.

TheHill.com has a great piece on the whoring out of our public sector unions.

Obama Outlines Medicare Solvency Since H.C. Reform – True or False?

In Democratic Platform, Federal Government, Internet, Legislation, Political Commentary, Politics, Uncategorized, White House, www.whitehouse.gov on August 9, 2010 at 9:53 am

The President once again has ignored the facts and is drinking his own cool-aid. While the Latest report from the Medicare Trustees says they have added 12 years of solvency to Medicare their own Chief Actuary says that’s not true and those are fraudulent numbers. Hidden in the footnotes in the appendix of this report he says the savings that the Obama Administration is claiming are “extremely unlikely to occur.” Fact: You can not add 30,000,000 +/- more people to the government system without increasing costs.

But you won’t hear about the footnotes on ABC,CBS,NBC or their cable affiliates. Maybe CNN, but I doubt it.

He also talks about not cutting benefits from our seniors, but they cut $500,000,000,000 (billion) from the fund partly by cutting Medicare Advantage a very popular program. He touts the $3.85 per week savings in medicare premiums for seniors. $3.85, yep that almost enough for a can of cat food.

I do agree with the President on one part of his video speech “…we are no longer accepting business as usual”. No I am not. Where will you be on November 2, 2010?

SEC Sidesteps Oversight Under Financial Reform Law

In Democratic Platform, Federal Government, Freedom of Information Act, Legislation, Media, Political Commentary, Politics, SEC on August 7, 2010 at 8:50 pm

Human Events has the facts on how the SEC is exempt from the Freedom of Information Act requests! Transparency? You decide! Here is an excerpt.

“Tucked inside a bill revamping the financial industry, signed by President Obama on July 21, is a provision that allows an exemption for the SEC to ignore certain FOIA requests. The FOIA dodge came to light when journalists from Fox Business Network discovered the SEC’s new public records loophole, an action the network’s attorney dubbed “a backroom deal that was cut between Congress and the SEC to keep the SEC’s failures secret.”

Charley Reese – 545 People

In Federal Government, Legislation, Media, Political Commentary, Politics, Uncategorized on August 5, 2010 at 12:09 pm

There is a great piece written by Charlie Reese back in 1985 and re-written again in 1995 about the 545 people responsible for the mess we find the Federal Government.

545 arrogant, deaf, corrupt individuals that know what is best for us. It is worth a read. I have included the link so you can read both the original 1985 version and his updated 1995 article.

snopes.com: Charley Reese – 545 People.

This one is from an email I received and I cannot attribute the changes and additions to Reese, but they are relevant and factual.

EVERY CITIZEN NEEDS TO READ THIS AND THINK ABOUT WHAT THIS JOURNALIST HAS SCRIPTED IN THIS MESSAGE. READ IT AND THEN REALLY THINK ABOUT OUR CURRENT POLITICAL DEBACLE.

545 PEOPLE–By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to
coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million
dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits…. . The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red .

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it’s because they want them in IRAQ If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power..

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees…

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

1960 Democratic Platform – Excerpt on Immigration

In Communist Platform, Democratic Platform, Legislation, Media, Political Commentary, Politics, Republican Platform on July 24, 2010 at 4:19 pm

This is an excerpt from the Dems platform in 1960 on Immigration. Many flip flops and much the same.

{{desc}} See the full text platform via Democratic Party Platforms: Democratic Party Platform of 1960.

Immigration

We shall adjust our immigration, nationality and refugee policies to eliminate discrimination and to enable members of scattered families abroad to be united with relatives already in our midst.

The national-origins quota system of limiting immigration contradicts the rounding principles of this nation. It is inconsistent with our belief in the rights of man. This system was instituted after World War I as a policy of deliberate discrimination by a Republican Administration and Congress.

The revision of immigration and nationality laws we seek will implement our belief that enlightened immigration, naturalization and refugee policies and humane administration of them are important aspects of our foreign policy.

These laws will bring greater skills to our land, reunite families, permit the United States to meet its fair share of world programs of rescue and rehabilitation, and take advantage of immigration as an important factor in the growth of the American economy.

In this World Refugee Year it is our hope to achieve admission of our fair share of refugees. We will institute policies to alleviate suffering among the homeless wherever we are able to extend our aid.

We must remove the distinctions between native-born and naturalized citizens to assure full protection of our laws to all. There is no place in the United States for “second-class citizenship.”

The protections provided by due process, right of appeal, and statutes of limitation, can be extended to non-citizens without hampering the security of our nation.

Housing

5. “The right of every family to a decent home.” Today our rate of home building is less than that of ten years ago. A healthy, expanding economy will enable us to build two million homes a year, in wholesome neighborhoods, for people of all incomes.

Health

6. “The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health.”

Public Assistance

Persons in need who are inadequately protected by social insurance are cared for by the states and local communities under public assistance programs.

The Federal Government, which now now shares the cost of aid to some of these, should share in all, and benefits should be made available without regard to residence.

Energy

The Republican Administration would turn the clock back to the days before the New Deal, in an effort to divert the benefits of the great natural energy resources from all the people to a favored few. It has followed for many years a “no new starts” policy. It has stalled atomic energy development; it has sought to cripple rural electrification. It has closed the pilot plant on getting oil from shale. It has harassed and hampered the TVA.We reject this philosophy and these policies. The people are entitled to use profitably what they already own.The Democratic Administration instead will foster the development of efficient regional giant power systems from all sources, including water, tidal, and nuclear power, to supply low-cost electricity to all retail electric systems, public, private, and cooperative. The Democratic Administration will continue to develop “yardsticks” for measuring the rates of private utility systems. This means meeting the needs of rural electric cooperatives for low-interest loans for distribution, transmission and generation facilities; Federal transmission facilities, where appropriate, to provide efficient low-cost power supply; and strict enforcement of the public-preference clause in power marketing. The Democratic Administration will support continued study and research on energy fuel resources, including new sources in wind and sun. It will push forward with the Passamaquoddy tidal power project with its great promise of cheaper power and expanded prosperity for the people of New England. We support the establishment of a national fuels policy. The $15 billion national investment in atomic energy should be protected as a part of the public domain.
